Disney World was everything we'd hoped
for and more.
We all had a great time courtesy of my win with Cathedral
City. It was fantastic from start to finish and I still can’t
believe that all this has come from this wonderful hobby of
ours. I never imagined I would win something like this. My
expectation was perhaps to win a DVD or a book or two if I was
lucky and I truly never expected that I would win a holiday so
I had to keep pinching myself to remind me that this was real.
On our arrival at Orlando Airport it was dark and there was a
heavy shower of rain
falling. (warm rain, mind you) Oh! Oh! Maybe November wasn’t
the right month to choose, not to worry it was OK, that was
the last we saw of the rain. The following morning we awoke to
brilliant sunshine and from then on Florida lived up to its
name of the Sunshine State The sun shone all day everyday,
temperatures were in the 80’s There was no sign of any
hurricanes while we were there (which we had been a little
worried about after the year just passed). We saw some signs
of damage, wreaked by the recent ones though during our second
week with uprooted trees lining the highways. |

Our first week in the Disney Resort
hotel was marvellous. The accommodation was ideal, the food
excellent a big plus as far as I’m concerned, all thoughts of
a diet were put on hold (but will resume immediately on
Monday). There was even plenty of choice for fussy teenagers!
It was all very professional and at times a little
overwhelming absolutely every need was anticipated and catered
for. Nothing was too much trouble; the staff always greeted us
with a friendly smile and a genuine desire to please.
The sheer scale of Disney resort/parks is unimaginable before
you arrive there. The Parks are amazing!! Each one had
something really special to offer or I should say several
things. My own personal favourites were Typhoon Lagoon and
Epcot. The new ride there ‘Soarin’ was spectacular and I loved
the rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster accompanied by Aerosmith at MGM. I
could go on and on and on … |
I had been well warned by seasoned Disney travellers that the
queues for the rides would be lengthy. 2 hours was the most
frequently quoted time and the use of the’ Fast Pass’ was
essential. I wasn’t
looking forward to that, we were very lucky however and did
not have to wait more than 20 minutes for any of the rides
except (Soarin’) at Epcot which was well worth the wait.
Despite having Disney passes for the entire week and with more
than enough to keep us occupied for several weeks we decided
to venture out and visit Sea World and Universal Studios both
trips were excellent. The Dolphin show at Sea World and the
stunt shows at MGM were fantastic!! The weirdest thing was
standing under the Christmas decorations which began to emerge
during our stay, whilst we were wearing our shorts and tee
shirts. The whole experience was a dream come true. |

The promoters as I’ve said before were very accommodating and
allowed us to include some additional elements of our own; a
second week on the Gulf Coast was a terrific antidote to the
frantic pace of Disney. We also managed a day trip to Key West
on the ferry which was absolutely fabulous. I could definitely
have stayed there for longer. Sloppy Joe’s bar where
Hemmingway used to idle away the hours and seek inspiration
was an ideal spot to stay out of the sun! It had a real laid
back Island feel wonderful, live music, delicious food and
cocktails. I was in heaven. We had a once in a lifetime
unrepeatable holiday all thanks to Comping!! Can you believe
it?
Anything is possible. Happy Comping |
